Enviornmental Healthcare Workers

To fulfill its mission to provide quality education and job training resources and opportunities to LIUNA members in the service contract industry, the SCETT Fund is pleased to offer the first in a series of new curricula designed exclusively for its stakeholders.

Course Description

The Environmental Healthcare Worker course prepares entry level Service Contract Employees to perform job tasks associated with environmental cleaning of health care facilities. Training emphasizes proper work techniques and infection control procedures using up-to-date information on safety procedures and regulations affecting service industry workers. The curriculum is designed to be used with on-the-job learning and is supplemented with short classroom and “tool box” training sessions. Specific topics covered in the course include:

  • Customer Service

  • Supply Carts and Closets

  • Hand Washing Procedures

  • Waste Handling

  • Infectious Waste Handling

  • Linen Handling

  • Dry Cleaning Procedures

  • Wet Cleaning Procedures

  • Bloodborne Pathogens

  • Hazard Communications

  • Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)

  • Hospital Specific Aseptic Cleaning

The curriculum includes Participant Guide, Instructor Guide, PowerPoint’s, videos, and knowledge assessments.
